There are three types and two grades of A53 pipe: A53 Type F, longitudinal furnace butt welding or continuous welding (Grades A and B), A53 Type E, longitudinal resistance welding (Grades A and B), A53 Type S, which is Seamed tubes, produced from steel (grades A and B) by hot working and possibly cold finishing.
ASTM A53 pipe is sized according to the Nominal Pipe Size (NPS) system. It usually comes with threaded ends or flush-cut ends. Can be used to transport steam, water and air. It is also weldable and can be used in structural applications.
Seamless piping. Outside diameters range from 1/8" to 26" (3.2mm to 660mm), and wall thicknesses range from 0.405" to 4" (10.3mm to 100mm).
Straight seam pipe. Outside diameters range from 1/2" to 26" (21.5mm to 660mm) and wall thickness ranges from 0.035" to 0.500" (0.9mm to 12.7mm).
ASTM A53 Grade B is the material under the American steel pipe standard, API 5L Gr.B is also the American standard material, A53 GR.B ERW refers to the electric resistance welded steel pipe of A53 GR.B; API 5L GR.B Welded refers to the material Welded steel pipe of API 5L GR.B.
